Audits for Charities & Non-Profits

Charitable organisations see success through a different lens. It’s not just about profits; it’s about creating enduring change, and at WR Partners, that’s exactly our approach to our relationships with each and every client.

Manage risk and maintain compliance

At WR Partners, we’re all about making a difference, not just making money. More than half of our clients are non-profits, and we know how important their work is because it matters to us too. We do more than just audits; we build relationships.

Whether you’re a large organisation or a small community group, we’re here to help. Our audits for charities and not-for-profit organisations are designed to help you manage risk, meet your compliance obligations, and identify opportunities to optimise charitable funds.

Meaningful measurements of success

We understand that charitable organisations look at success differently. It’s not just about profits; it’s about making a lasting change, so we position ourselves as more than just accountants – we’re partners who care about your cause. Our job is to support, understand, and help you grow your non-profit in your own unique way.

Our approach is all about being friendly and easy to work with. We want to take the stress out of dealing with numbers and make everything as clear and straightforward as possible. We respect tradition, but we’re also excited about the future. Our experienced non-profit team is always looking for new, better ways to do things, using technology to our advantage. At WR Partners, simplicity, clarity, and transparency guide everything we do, because our goal is to help you succeed.

Financial audits for charities

Our audit approach for charities and non-profits is rigorous and risk-based. We communicate both with management and those charged with governance throughout the process issuing robust, timely, and relevant feedback. We work to an agreed timetable to ensure your reporting needs are met and keep you up to date with legislative changes and best practices relevant to the charitable sector.

In these changing times, we can work with you remotely, via traditional on-site visits, or a blend of both. We have found that in the non-profit sector the increase in virtual meetings has proved hugely beneficial to board members who often don’t live locally to their charities, often cutting down on travel and expenses. Whatever suits, we will work with you to find a system that best meets your needs.

FAQs

When do charities need an audit?

A higher level of public interest means that the regime for charity accounts inspection is different to that for commercial companies. Broadly speaking an audit is required if your income exceeds £1million or if your assets exceed £3.26 million and income is more than £250,000. You may also have a requirement for an audit if your governing document dictates it.

Do you offer services for small charities?

At WR Partners, we understand the unique fabric that weaves together the purpose and passion of smaller charities, and so we’ve crafted a dedicated team with a sole focus on the vibrant tapestry of causes like yours. Serving over a hundred smaller charities, we’re not just your accountants but your allies, offering tailored accounts preparation and independent examination services. We approach every partnership with a rhythm that dances in sync with your tempo and we nurture our smaller charities with complimentary training sessions, keeping you abreast of the shifting sands of financial regulations. From trustee training to financial best practices, our sessions are imbued with clear, personable guidance—your beacon in the intricate financial landscape. Together, we cultivate not just your financial stability, but the flourishing of your charitable mission.

What do small charities need to do to comply with the regulations?

All charities with income more than £10,000 need to file an annual return with the charity commission within 10 months of their year-end. If your annual income is above £25,000 you are required to have an independent examination of your accounts. Below this threshold, external scrutiny of the accounts is only needed if it is required by the charity’s governing document. All incorporated charities must file accounts at Companies House within 9 months of their year-end, regardless of income.
