In Memory of Tom Downes

Our Partner, and colleague, Tom Downes passed away on Sunday 13th July losing his brave battle with cancer. We want to take this opportunity to remember Tom’s contribution to WR Partners over his 20 year career with the Firm.
Tom joined WR Partners in February 2006, having qualified as a Certified Chartered Accountant with Smith & Williamson. Tom achieved his personal career ambitions, becoming a Partner in April 2019. Specialising in providing guidance to our Landed Estate and Rural clients, as a Society of Trust and Estate Practitioner (STEP), Tom mixed his extensive knowledge in all accounting, taxation and trust matters with his agricultural background. He used this expertise and passion for the rural industry to support our clients, building family relationships over many years, providing practical, forward thinking and pragmatic advice on many business and family related matters.
Tom was an amazing networker and used his extensive contacts to develop the WR profile across Shropshire, Mid Wales and beyond. Always ambitious for the Firm, Tom contributed to the ongoing development of the business as well as acting as a role model and mentor to team members, both within the Rural and wider WR Partners team.
We will remember not only Tom’s professional strengths and expertise but his positivity and belief that any obstacle could be overcome. He demonstrated courage in fighting his many health challenges and was a true gentleman.
He will be missed by us all at WR and our thoughts are with Tom’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
