Charities and Not-for-Profit
Our specialist team
With almost half of our audit clients coming from the not-for-profit sector, we pride ourselves on our understanding and knowledge of the issues which are important to you. We have a specialist not-for-profit team that works in partnership with our clients, getting to know them and their particular circumstances. Our clients come in all shapes and sizes – from national charities to small local organisations and everything in between!
We understand that the drivers for not-for-profit organisations can differ from those of commercial entities. Board members without day to day involvement in the organisation have different needs from full-time directors and we build that understanding into our approach.
Approach
Our audit approach is rigorous and risk-based. We communicate both with management and those charged with governance throughout the process issuing robust, timely, and relevant feedback. We work to an agreed timetable to ensure your reporting needs are met and keep you up to date with sector changes and best practices.
In these changing times, we can work with you remotely, via traditional on-site visits or a blend of both. In this sector the increase in virtual meetings has proved hugely beneficial to board members who often don’t live locally to their charities, often cutting down on travel and expense. We will work with you to find a system that best meets your needs.
When do I need an audit?
A higher level of public interest means that the regime for charity accounts inspection is different to that for commercial companies. Broadly speaking an audit is required if your income exceeds £1million or if your assets exceed £3.26 million and income is more than £250,000. You may also have a requirement for an audit if your governing document dictates it.
If you don’t meet these criteria then you can take advantage of a lighter touch regime, click here.
